Cultural Designs - Handcrafted with Care
Christina Chan, the founder is a designer that builds cultural designs.
Sun Chan (also known as Father Chan in the local Seattle community), founder of Sun's Jewelry is the main metalsmither for Dyme Designs. Both Christina and Sun are wire wrappers.
Metal Materials
We use a variety of metals including 14k gold filled, 14k solid gold, 18k solid gold, sterling silver and stainless steel. Scraps from our metals are collected so we can melt and reuse for future creations.
The gold is sourced from refiners on the London Bullion Market Assocation (LBMA) list, meaning that the refiners are in good legal standing. These refiners also certify and independently audit that all supplies are traceable and conflict-free.
Packaging
We reuse all packaging provided by our suppliers. We use both compostable and recyclable to mail out your packages. We have a monthly subscription to Ridwell, a local business that takes (hard to recycle) plastic, finds sustainable alternatives, and partners with other local non profits to reuse the plastic. They also make it easy to donate unused electronics, light bulbs, clothing and seasonal items such as holiday decorations. Our business also invests in carbon neutral shipping.
Gemstones
We use laboratory grown gemstones, which is a sustainable alternative to mined gemstones. The majority of our natural gemstones are from Rio Grande, where they do not trade in "conflict diamonds" (under the purview of the international Kimberley Process.) They visit many of the mines the gemstones come from. Our Canadian jade are more mindfully sourced from a family of miners. Although, we acknowlege that this is not fully sustainable as we use minerals mined from earth, we do strive to make the business sustainable and envinronmentally mindful in areas that we are able to.
Land Acknowledgement
Dyme Designs LLC acknowledges that we gather on Indigenous land: the traditional territory of Coast Salish peoples, specifically the Duwamish Tribe (Dkhw Duw’Absh).
Acknowledging that we are on Duwamish land and that we are visitors on this land, we have a recurring donation to pay rent to Real Rent Duwamish.
Giving Back
Our business invests back into community groups that support the local BIPOC communities in Washington. This includes various local non-profit organizations such as ACRS, Scidpda, Puget Sound Sage, King County Equity Now, and more.
Sponsors
We are sponsors of C-ID Block Party and for Made Space fundrasing efforts.
